What is liquid culture?

Liquid culture is a nutrient-rich liquid containing mycelium, the root-like structure of mushrooms. When you add liquid culture to sterilized grains, you get grain spawn. This spawn is then added to a growing medium like hardwood, where the mycelium grows further and eventually fruits mushrooms.
